At Varroc, it is extremely important to identify and institutionalize what really helped us to
achieve what we have achieved so far, what has really been critical to the incredible story
that is Varroc. We feel it is our teams, and even more importantly a common and consistent
set of behaviors and skills displayed by every individual in the team, regardless of the role
they play in it. These behaviors and skills are what make up Albus, the Varroc Competency
Framework.
The last aspect to be addressed is the name – Albus. It was inspired from Harry Potter, a
book and movie series that is a global phenomenon which speaks of victory of the right
values like we have with SHIPS, over negative values like greed, selfishness, discrimination
and a thirst for power. These were the first two traits we wanted to associate with our
competency framework of timelessness and being the best. More importantly, Albus was
also one of Harry Potter’s leading characters, his Headmaster and mentor. There are many
types of mentors in the world, however, the best type of mentor according is not one that
just tells us what to do, but one that really creates options for us to choose who we want
to be. One that really looks to understand us, and regardless of his or her own desired
outcomes, presents us with paths that enable us to choose what is the best version of
ourselves.
